Coldplay at Hampden Glasgow: Travel guide as fans issued warning ahead of gig

Coldplay fans have been issued a warning ahead of the gig as road closures and heavy traffic is expected.

ScotRail have announced they will be running extra trains on the days of the Coldplay gigs and the train oportator is warning ticket holders to get back to Mount Florida “as quickly as possible” after the show.

Meanwhile, traffic is expected to be “heavier than normal” on the M74, M77, M8 and M80, as Traffic Scotland issued a warning and asked fans to consider walking, cycling and public transport as alternative options.

As part of Coldplay's Music of Spheres World Tour, the train operator will be running extra trains between Mount Florida and Glasgow Central over the two days. Coldplay will be performing at Hampden Park on Tuesday August 23 and Wednesday 24, marking the only Scottish dates on their tour.

After the first show quickly sold out, the British band, fronted by Chris Martin, added an extra date to their anticipated show. The Fix You singer has pledged to make the gigs are sustainable and as low-carbon as possible with biodegradable confetti and a platform that requires fans to jump and dance on it which then converts into energy.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Head of Customer Operations, said: “We’re looking forward to helping music lovers travel by train to see Coldplay perform at our national stadium.

“To help the event run smoothly, we’re adding extra carriages to key trains as well as more trains to and from Hampden.

“Our advice to customers is to leave extra time for travel as trains are likely to be busier than normal. Buying tickets in advance through our mTickets system will reduce your queuing time.”
