Coldplay and Justin Bieber are to perform live at the Brit awards on 24 February, though – sadly – not together. Coldplay, who will also headline the halftime show at the 50th Super Bowl on 7 Februry, return to the Brits for the first time since 2013. It will be Bieber’s first live performance at the Brits, although he won the award for international breakthrough act in 2011.

Coldplay have been nominated for 21 Brit awards, winning eight – including three for best British album and three for best British group. The group recently returned to live performance in Britain with a low key show for the BBC at St John’s Church in east London, and are to play four nights at Wembley Stadium in June.

Bieber has a chequered history at the O2 arena, which hosts the Brits. When he appeared there in March 2013, he appeared on stage at 10.30pm, nearly two hours after the crowd had expected him to start his show – forcing many parents to take their young children home before he had even appeared, causing booing in the arena and outraged complaints to the media.

Coldplay and Bieber join Adele on the bill for the Brits. Her appearance was announced on Thursday.
