Nov. 17--The dusting of snow that coated much of Chicago over the weekend brought with it frigid temperatures that are expected to stick around at least until this weekend.
Highs aren't expected to pass 30 degrees until Saturday and Sunday, which have highs projected at 39 and 46 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
But until then: cold and wind.
The temperature Monday night is expected to drop to around 12 degrees, with winds from the west of 15 to 20 miles per hour and gusts up to 35 miles per hour dropping wind chills to as low as 5 below zero, according to the weather service.
Tuesday will warm up to near 20 degrees, but winds and gusts continuing from overnight could drive the wind chill to 6 below, the weather service said.
The cold Tuesday will flirt with a record low temperature of 8 degrees set in 1880, according to WGN meteorologist Tom Skilling. The high also could be the lowest for any Nov. 18 -- the record low high temperature was 22 degrees in 1903, and the National Weather Service is predicting a high near 20 degrees.
If there's good news to be had this week it's that, aside from an outside chance at scattered snow between noon and 9 p.m. or so Monday, no precipitation is expected through Sunday.
