Cold weather snap expected just in time for Christmas

After being battered by two recent storms, many of us are now enjoying a balmier December as strong winds and terrible rain have subsided in the south west.

The calmer weather is expected ton continue in the run-up to Christmas, which should certainly make any last-minute shopping trips easier.

However, temperatures across the country are expected to dip just before the festive weekend, according to the Met Office, especially in the south of the country.

The Met Office longrange forecast says: "Temperatures near average to start, and locally mild in the north, although they will tend to become colder in time for Christmas, especially in southern areas. As a result, the risk of frost and fog increases, the fog slow to clear through the mornings, and perhaps lasting all day in some places."

Net Weather are also predicting, as part of their long range forecast, that Christmas Day is going to be dry - good news for anyone who is expecting Father Christmas to deliver a bike this year - but of course this could change in the coming weeks. Last week long range forecasts predicted a possible band of snow over the West Country

This week looks set to be cloudy and mild, with occasional patches of drizzly rain. A welcome reprive from the chaos of last week and Storm Barra.
