Residents in Greater Manchester have faced one bout of cold weather after the next since the start of the year.
Last week, conditions were bitterly cold, with temperatures dropping below zero.
And before then, the Met Office had to issue a number of severe weather warnings for snow and ice covering the region.
With more time spent at home than ever during the national lockdown, many households have had to have their heating on for long periods each day.
However, you may be able to claim back some money from the government to compensate with a Cold Weather Payment.
A payment is given if the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees celsius or below over seven consecutive days.
Those who are entitled will get £25 for each seven day period of very cold weather between November 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021.
You can apply for a Cold Weather Payment if you're getting:
- Pension Credit
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Universal Credit
