Cold Spell by Jackson Pearce - review

Jackson Pearce, Cold Spell

Out of all the Jackson Pearce books I've read, I have to say that this one was the most interesting. I found it even more compelling than Sisters Red which was also amazing. I love reading novels that are about twists in fairy tales and this one was a really good one.

This is a retelling of The Snow Queen and it is honestly so much better than the original because I could relate to it a lot more as the main characters were typical teenagers. Kai and Ginny, who are in love with each other, never really believed in the stories that Kai's grandma, Dalia, told them about beasts and the Snow Queen. But when Dalia dies and a mysterious girl names Mora starts appearing everywhere and seems to be wanting to take Ginny's place in Kai's heart, Ginny starts to think about whether or not the stories were real. She suspects that something much bigger, a much greater power is at work here and she is determined to get Kai back. Thus Ginny's quest to get back the love of her life begins. She also meets the Fenris (a private investigator and his werewolf killing wife) who are my favourite characters because they are just so awesome.

This book takes you on a roller coaster of emotions like love, fear, sadness and mystery and I enjoyed reading every page. I don't think I have ever felt such a huge amount of resentment towards the antagonist in any book other than this one.

I honestly thought this book was just magical and it must have taken Jackson Pearce ages to carefully plan everything out like the setting and the characters and make it all perfect which is what this book was. I've honestly never been so sucked into one book (not even The Fault In Our Stars). I definitely think this was an addictive read and I would recommend it to fans of the romance and mystery genre.
