MYSURU: The government’s proposal to offer engineering education in Kannada medium received a cold response from students in the first round of CET seat allotment.
BE in Kannada medium was launched in select engineering colleges from this academic year as part of National Education Policy, 2020.
In Mysuru, no one selected mechanical engineering seats available at Maharaja Institute of Technology, Mysuru (MIT-M) in the first round. However, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) authorities were confident students would show interest in Kannadamedium seats in the next rounds. At Sri Jagadguru Chandrashekaranatha Swamiji Institute of Technology, Chikkaballapur, officials said 12 students selected seats in civil engineering with a cutoff rank of 1,69,393 under general merit category.
MIT-M administrative officer Aniruddha AM said as no student pursues PU education in Kannada medium, there is unlikely to be more demand for engineering education in that medium.
VTU VC Karisiddappa, however, said he is confident that in the next rounds, more students will join the Kannada-medium courses.
