Livingston midfielder Stephane Omeonga admits he had to be ‘cold hearted’ in delivering a knockout blow against his former team.
The Belgian ace was a popular character within the squad and fanbase during two separate loan spells at Hibs but said he had to take the emotion out of it as he faced the capital club for the first time.
Omeonga was awarded man of the match for a tenacious, battling performance in heart of Livi’s midfield three as Jack McMillan’s goal separated the sides.
That brought about the end of the Jack Ross era at Easter Road with the 45-year-old sacked following the result.
Omeonga said: “I had to be cold hearted. It was an emotional one for me.
“It was important for me to show I am still the same, and doing what I love. They’re not in a good situation, to be honest. I still have them in my heart.
“I am a Hibs supporter and I just hope they can do better as soon as possible.”
While it’s currently all doom and gloom in Leith, the Lions are roaring after following up a fine display against Hearts with a dominant performance against Hibs, with Omeonga saying: “We are playing good football just now. We have a good group of players who can carry the ball but still win duels and battles.
“Sometimes we have to play good football and sometimes you have to win the ugly way but this was a good way to win.
“We were playing against a good side, but they were under a little bit of pressure. We were prepared, we knew we were playing against a good team, but the game plan worked.
“Maybe we deserved a little more out of the game, but the most important thing was we won.”
It’s now a trip to Dundee United on Saturday with the former Genoa man admitting he’s hopeful he can end his own goal drought having witnessed McMillan net for the first time in three years on Wednesday.
He said: “Jack can play everywhere. He is just so good on the ball and clever, and doesn’t stop running. I like to play with him.
“I didn’t know it was his first goal in three years. I hope my goal is going to come soon. My last goal was for Hibs.
“We don’t have to overthink it, we have to take each game as it comes, especially when we are playing every three days.
“We got three points on Wednesday, now Saturday has to be about three points as well.”
