Rain, hail and gusty winds have battered Adelaide, despite it being the middle of spring, as a blast of wintry weather moved over the city, causing temperatures to drop sharply.
More than 20 millimetres of rain fell in the Adelaide Hills Sunday night, while strong winds also kept State Emergency Service crews busy.
Between midnight and about 9:00am, the SES responded to more than a dozen jobs, mostly involving fallen trees and damage to roofs, as a vigorous cold front moved across the state.
The Country Fire Service was also called out to a minor rockslide before dawn on Gorge Road at Cudlee Creek, where 25mm of rain fell before 9:00am.
The strongest wind gust in the metro area overnight was 91 kilometres per hour at Outer Harbor, while a gust of 100kph was recorded at Cape Willoughby on Kangaroo Island.
"[It was] quite gusty overnight and there's also been some rainfall around," said Tom Boeck, senior forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology.
"Generally 2 to 10mm in the metropolitan areas, 10 to 15mm in the Adelaide Hills.
"There's been some thunderstorm activity as well and small hail showers overnight."
SA Health confirmed bricks fell off the exterior of Modbury Hospital in Adelaide's north-east at 3:00am.
The damage to the third floor of the building, which is more than 40 years old, was attributed to the storm.
SA Health said no patients or staff were injured.
In the south-east, Mount Gambier received 14mm of rain.
Temperatures in the city rose above 28 degrees Celsius yesterday but dropped overnight to about 8C.
Wet and windy conditions remained throughout the day.
The bureau said the winds would decrease in the evening but there was slight chance for rain and possible small hail.
