Cold case cracked after 40 years as murder suspect finally arrested

  • Randy McAllister, a 62-year-old Ohio man, has been arrested and charged with murder and aggravated murder in connection with a 40-year-old cold case.
  • McAllister is accused of killing traveling salesman John Warren, who was found strangled in his Middletown, Ohio, hotel room in October 1985.
  • The case saw a breakthrough after detectives from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office reinvestigated in 2019, submitting crime-scene items for new lab analysis.
  • Lab results identified McAllister and a now-deceased accomplice as potential suspects, leading to further investigation by authorities.
  • McAllister was indicted by a grand jury, booked into the Warren County Jail on July 1, and is scheduled for an arraignment on July 7.
