UFC on ESPN+ 29 is in need of a second main event participant – and Colby Covington has raised his hand.
Shortly after news broke Leon Edwards is out of his fight against Tyron Woodley, former welterweight title challenger Covington (15-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) offered his services up on Twitter.
“Word on the street is @LeonScott is out. The @ufc and America need a hero,” Covington wrote. “Who wants see America’s Champ put the #MAGA cape on and beat the (expletive) out of @TWooodley live on @espn next week for your entertainment and my own personal pleasure?”
UFC on ESPN+ 29 was scheduled to take place Saturday in London. However, the event was forced to move outside of the United Kingdom due to governmental coronavirus outbreak safety rulings.
Saturday, the promotion announced the event would move Stateside. But no location has been revealed and the UFC has not given any additional updates on the card’s status.
Woodley (19-4-1 MMA, 9-3-1 UFC vs. Edwards wasn’t the only fight affected by the outbreak safety rulings. Almost every fight on the card has been impacted by either a one-fighter withdrawal or a cancellation.
Covington has not competed since UFC 245 in December when champion Kamaru Usman finished him by strikes in Round 5. The loss snapped a seven-fight winning streak dating back to June 2016.
