Colby Covington accused of "acting like Conor McGregor" ahead of Jorge Masvidal fight

Colby Covington has been told to stop acting like Conor McGregor ahead of his grudge fight with Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272.

Covington and Masvidal were former roommates and best friends, but their relationship has since turned sour ahead of their fight this Saturday.

'Chaos' trained at American Top Team for almost a decade, but left the gym in 2020 after falling out with several of his teammates.

One of which was former UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who said Covington's behaviour changed for the worst after winning the interim welterweight title in 2018.

"The way he was acting after he won the interim belt, like all the old man opening the door for him, him having a driver, these girls, these b****** around him, walking to our American Top Team. It wasn’t true," she told MMA Fighting.

"Why are you acting like Conor McGregor [and then] saying bad things about Conor McGregor? There is only one Conor McGregor.

“So don’t call names on him and you’re trying to act like him. You have empty pockets, and you’re trying to act like a king. You can’t do these things. You can’t tell lies.”

“Colby, he didn’t make a good impression when he was leaving. You can’t burn the bridges. Karma is bad, and I hope that Colby will have a strong ass when it [bites] him.”

McGregor is known for his flamboyant personality that has made him the biggest star in the UFC, being part of the top five highest-selling pay-per-views in promotional history.

But Covington is also one of the most controversial personalities on the roster and is known for pushing the boundaries when trash-talking his opponents.

'Chaos' will look to settle the score with Masvidal and set up a third fight with pound-for-pound No.1 Kamaru Usman, who he has lost twice to already.

Jedrzejczyk is excited to watch the UFC 272 grudge match between her former and current teammate and labelled Covington as a "great athlete" despite falling out with him.

"Colby is a great athlete, and what I remember from back in the day, that he was always training on the mat. When the training was done after one and a half hours, he was doing an extra one and a half hours with Jorge Masvidal," she added.

“Actually, I had this conversation with [someone] the other day, how crazy was it is that they were friends. They were always together. Now you see all these promo videos, they were cornering each other. Now they’re the biggest rivals.”
