COIMBATORE: Electricity minister V Senthil Balaji inaugurated the ‘Symphony by the Lake’, a laser sound and light show on water screen, at Valankulam Lake here on Sunday evening, as part of the ongoing Coimbatore Vizha celebrations.
Nishith Shah, chairperson of Coimbatore Vizha, said they had roped in a team from New Delhi to present the laser show. “Water will be pumped up to form a screen, which will be nearly 10 metres above the lake surface and 30 metres wide, to project the lasers and lights, with music in the background. The running time of each show is 20 minutes. There will be a minimum of six shows daily from 7pm till April 17.”
A cycling event was organized by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Green City on the day to create awareness on saving nature. The event saw participation of 135 cyclists.
The day also saw bird and butterfly watching event that was organized by the Coimbatore Nature Society and the Nature and Butterfly Society in association with the Kovai Kulangal Padhukaapu Amaippu at Vellalore wetland. Close to 50 people from different walks of life participated in the event.
Meanwhile, a flash mob was performed at the city airport, where dancers did classical, western, folk and fusion performances. Among other events was a free training for youth on agri entrepreneurship, focusing on hydroponics farming techniques and bunker models.
The day also saw the launch of a free eye camp at KG Hospital. The camp would be conducted till April 17 from 4pm to 6pm.
