Coimbatore: Girl’s head cut off as her shawl gets stuck in bike wheel

COIMBATORE: A 10-year-old girl died after her shawl got caught in the wheel of a bike on which she was riding pillion on Annur-Othimalai Road on Friday evening.

Police said the girl's head was severed in the incident.

The Annur police said S Dharshana of Vadakkalur near Annur was a Class V student. The girl was down with fever for a few days.

"On Friday, her mother S Vasanthi took her to Annur government hospital on a motorcycle (with) their neighbour V Vignesh. While returning home, one end of the girl's shawl got caught in the rear wheel. Since the shawl was draped tightly around her neck, her head was severed," an officer said. The body was sent to Mettupalayam government hospital for postmortem. Police registered a case against Vignesh, who was riding the bike.
