Coffee shop venture Kin+Ilk expands with fifth venue

Independent coffee shop operator Kin+Ilk has expanded its artisan brand with the opening of a fifth cafe and bar space in Cardiff.

Its latest venue is at the grade II listed and Victorian built office scheme, the Maltings.

The letting follows a £3m refurbishment of the building's serviced offices.

Property advisory firm Cooke & Arkwright negotiated the lease with Kin+Ilk on behalf of the Maltings.

Kin+Ilk was launched in 2016. It operates four other coffee shops in the city at the No 1 Capital Quarter office scheme, the St David’s Centre, Cathedral Road in Pontcanna and in Cardiff Bay.

It has a focus on locally-sourced food and drink from independent producers.

Director with the firm, David Davies, said: “We set up Kin+Ilk with the vision to create distinctively designed venues with great coffee, food and drink, that brings together creative, business and entrepreneurial people to eat, drink, connect and collaborate in calm and inclusive places.

“The Maltings fits our vision perfectly and we are very excited to bring our brand to this iconic and vibrant business centre. We will be hosting regular events where we can engage with freelancers and business owners.”

Gareth Oram, operations manager at the Maltings said: “We are delighted to welcome Kin+Ilk to the Maltings.

"They have a vision that fits in with our own ambition to expand our services with additional meeting and events provisions outside of office hours. We look forward to developing this concept with them.”

Ben Davies, associate with Cooke & Arkwright’s retail and leisure agency said: "Kin+Ilk's on site presence is an excellent addition to the Maltings.  They have taken an innovative approach to the coffee shop experience and we are sure its arrival will be welcomed by the Maltings  business community.

"I'm confident that the venture will be a success. It has already been bolstered by a good working relationship between landlord and tenant.”
