Coffee giant Starbucks opens in Rutherglen bringing new jobs to the area

It was a brew-tiful day for Rutherglen last week as the area’s new Starbucks opened.

The global coffee giant has moved into Dalmarnock Road, creating 17 new jobs in the process, and locals were soon on hand to enjoy lattes and frappucinos.

Branch’s manager Molly Miller told the Reformer she is optimistic the chain can have a positive impact in the local area.

She said: “We’re really pleased to be in here. There’s a lot of construction and development going on in Rutherglen at the moment, and hopefully we can be a bit of a hub for everything that is happening.

“As well as me there’s a team of 17, so that has brought some new jobs to the area.

“A coffee shop can be a good thing for any town.

“It gives somewhere that people can meet up for a chat, access the wi-fi, and even use it for studying or work.

“We’ve had a good start. The feedback has been positive and people seem pleased that we are now open.”

The drive-thru launch has also had to follow coronavirus guidelines, and Molly says that steps have been taken to ensure people’s safety.

She added: “We’ve ensured that the tables are spread out so social distancing can be followed inside, and staff dealing with the public are all wearing masks.

“We have placed various precautions in place to make sure that people feel safe when they’re here.”

The new store is open from six am until 11pm.

Gordon Campbell, Starbucks Operations Manager at OCO Westend Ltd, said: “As part of our expansion project bringing 11 new Starbucks stores to Scotland, we are excited to open our store in Rutherglen.
