Coffee experts open Bristol cafe on harbourside

Two coffee experts have combined their vast experience in the industry to launch a new cafe on Bristol’s harbourside.

Friends Jack Hudspith and Kate Evans, who worked together at the highly-rated Small Street Espresso for four years, have converted the former Montgomery's Tea Room in Princes Wharf into the city’s newest hub for lovers of the drink.

The pair have spent the past six months creating their own house blend and will initially serve their bespoke coffee as espresso, as well as each of the three components of the blend using different brew methods.

To accompany the first-rate coffee there is a “small but carefully considered” range of sandwiches, cakes and pastries on offer made with seasonal produce, with more options to be added to the food menu over the coming months.

“Kate and I first started talking about opening our own coffee shop together about eight years ago, when we both worked at Small Street Espresso,” said Jack, 33.

“Now that it’s actually happening we can’t quite believe it. We’re really looking forward to meeting customers and pouring coffee for them.

“We’ve put a lot of work into the coffee we serve and we were keen to create a roast that both of us would like to drink ourselves.

“It’s such a fantastic location down here and the Wapping Wharf community has been really supportive, with lots of businesses wishing us good luck.”

New Cut Coffee, which opened today (March 11), will also sell bags of beans for customers to brew themselves at home and home brewing equipment.

It is operating as a takeaway only initially, before adding inside and outside seating once coronavirus restrictions are eased

Jack has been involved in the hospitality industry for 18 years, spending 15 of them focusing on his love of coffee.

He was most recently head barista for the hugely popular Farro Bakery on Bond Street.

Kate, who has also spent 15 years in the coffee industry, worked for 25a in Old Market after leaving Small Street Espresso.

New Cut Coffee is located at The Art Warehouse, Wapping Wharf, BS1 4RN.
