The average British person will drink 676 cups of coffee a year, according to a new survey.
The poll claims that British people buy three drinks from a cafe or coffee shop each week on average and drink 10 cups of instant coffee.
This amounts to a total of £303 spent on coffee each year.
The survey also found that people living in Newcastle, Belfast and Southampton are the biggest coffee fans in the UK.
Leanne Beswick, coffee machine expert for The Online Electricals Store, which commissioned the research, said, “We all love that first sip of coffee in the morning, which is why making proper coffee at home is more popular than ever.
“Not only does making coffee on your own machine save you money, but technology now means that your home-brewed cup can rival your local coffee shops.
“Plus, you don’t have to queue.”
The study of 2,000 adults found that for just under a quarter, their favourite type of coffee is a latte, while one in five prefer a cappuccino.
One in seven said that their favourite coffee is a flat white and one in five tend to choose an Americano.
The survey found that people aged 45 to 54 are most likely to choose a latte, while younger people prefer cappuccinos.
Researchers also said that 42 per cent of British people feel they haven’t "truly woken up to the day ahead" until they’ve had their first cup of coffee.
One in six of those polled said they think they are "funnier" and "wittier" after they have had a cup of coffee, and 31 per cent said they are able to work harder.
Almost one in 10 described themselves as "coffee addicts", and more than a third said they would not trust someone else to make them a hot drink in case they did not make it "exactly how they like it".
Two-thirds of the British people surveyed said they enjoy the taste of coffee as well as its caffeine kick.
It also emerged 36 per cent have invested in a reusable cup which they take with them when they go out to cut down on wasted cups.
Two in five say they mostly remember to bring their reusable cup along with them when they are on the move.
And 63 per cent said they worry about the impact disposable coffee cups are having on the environment.
Thirty-nine per cent of those surveyed said they have their own coffee machine at home. Of those who do not, a third said they have plans to own one in the future.
