Coffee and food chain Bob & Berts opens on Perth's High Street

A bright new addition to Perth’s High Street officially opened on Friday morning.

And founder of independent coffee and food chain Bob & Berts is confident Fair City folk will enjoy the offering.

The company has made a significant investment to transform the former BrightHouse store at 108 High Street - on the corner of King Edward Street - into a new coffee shop.

It is said to reflect Bob & Berts’ relaxed and fun, family-friendly style and will employ 30 staff.

The store, which has a striking blue and yellow exterior, is open from 8am until 9pm seven days a week.

The Perth opening is part of expansion across Scotland, with additional premises now being sought in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness regions.

The site is the company’s sixth in Scotland and further expansion is also planned across the UK in the coming months.

Colin McClean, founder of Bob & Berts, was exciting to welcome customers at the end of last week.

“We’ve put a lot into transforming this store into somewhere we can serve proper coffee and great grub to customers in Perth,” he explained to the PA.

“We take huge care in selecting locations for our independent shops and we are confident the people of Perth will appreciate our distinctive relaxed style, slow batch hand-roasted arabica beans, and extensive hot food offering.”

In addition to sit-in dining, Bob & Berts capitalised on a unique takeaway offering that includes a full cooked breakfast and coffee, attracting many first-time customers during the pandemic who have since become regulars.

They also have a seating area outside the store on the High Street.

Founded in Portstewart in Northern Ireland in 2013 by Mr McClean, Bob & Berts is known for its “distinctive style, quality offering and local community focused approach”.

In 2017 BGF, the UK’s and Ireland’s most active investor, invested £2m in the company which has helped drive its successful expansion into Scotland and England, improve processes across the operation and provide useful sector introductions.

Beyond its Scottish sites, the company has also seen rapid growth in its native Northern Ireland, and in England, where the team has opened four sites with a further eight in the pipeline.

David Ferguson, co-owner of Bob & Berts, said: “Bob & Berts is at a really exciting moment in terms of growth, and we are now keeping our eyes peeled for opportunities to bring our high quality food and coffee to new communities across Scotland.

“Perth is our 26th site across Northern Ireland, Scotland and England, and we’re now planning to open a further eight.”

Guests in Perth can expect an all-day breakfast menu with favourites including ‘Bob’s Famous Fry’ and ‘Spud Stack’, as well as a range of its famous pancake stacks and waffle dishes.

Light bites and lunch dishes are served alongside a range of vegetarian and vegan dishes such as the ‘Vegan Breakfast Burrito’ and a gluten free menu which includes the brunch favourite ‘Eggs Benny’.

Bob & Berts serves its own artisan coffee that is hand-roasted in Northern Ireland using 100 per cent arabica beans, as well as a range of milkshakes, frappes and smoothies.
