Cody Stamann vs. Song Yadong headed to UFC on ESPN 7

With respective wins over Alejandro Perez, Cody Stamann and Song Yadong are going to fight it out amongst themselves now.

The UFC on Wednesday announced the bantamweights are headed to UFC on ESPN 7, which takes place Dec. 7 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

When it comes to recent results, Yadong (15-4 MMA, 4-0 UFC) might have bragging rights. He knocked out Perez at UFC 239 to cinch a $50,000 bonus for “Performance of the Night.” The win elevated his current streak to four fights.

Stamann (18-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC), meanwhile, put Perez away on points at UFC 235 to rebound from a loss to top contender Aljamain Sterling, his only setback in five octagon outings.

Just after Yadong starched Perez, Stamann spoke about a canceled fight against Rob Font at UFC on ESPN+ 12 and said a shoulder injury forced him to drop out. He hoped for a top-ranked opponent.

Fresh of his knockout, Yadong hoped for the same. And according to the UFC’s list, he’s got one in No. 10 Stamann (who’s also ranked No. 11 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie bantamweight rankings).

UFC on ESPN 7’s main event features former K-1 and Strikeforce champ Alistair Overeem against Walt Harris.

The latest UFC on ESPN 7 lineup includes:

  • Alistair Overeem vs. Walt Harris
  • Yana Kunitskaya vs. Aspen Ladd
  • Cynthia Calvillo vs. Claudia Gadelha
  • Ben Rothwell vs. Stefan Struve
  • Cortney Casey vs. Virna Jandiroba
  • Cody Stamann vs. Song Yadong
