Cody Bellinger’s home run unexpectedly drilled Albert Almora Jr. on the head

Back in 1993, Jose Canseco cemented his spot in blooper-reel lore when a baseball off the bat of Indians infielder Carlos Martinez bounced off his head and over the wall for a home run.

It was the ultimate insult to injury. The ball probably hurt. He should have made the catch. And his misfortune directly led to a home run.

Well, 26 years later, the near reverse of the Canseco play happened to the Cubs’ Albert Almora Jr. It was equally as painful and unexpected.

During the sixth inning of Sunday’s game between the Dodgers and Cubs, Cody Bellinger tied the game with his solo homer to straightaway center field. But keep an eye on the ball as it cleared the wall at Dodger Stadium.

It bounced off the tarped section and came back to hit Almora right on the head. That probably didn’t feel pleasant.

To make matters worse for Almora, the Dodgers went on to win the game, 3-2. At least for him, ESPN cut away from the baseball-to-head bounce during the live broadcast.

That spared him from some internet ridicule.
