Cocoon by Sealy Chill vs Zinus Ultra Cooling Green Tea mattress: Materials and design

  • Both mattresses are memory foam with the option to upgrade to Hybrid
  • The Cocoon Sealy has a 10-inch profile with 4 layers
  • The Zinus mattress is 12-inches deep and also has 4 layers

Like the best memory foam mattresses, both the Cocoon by Sealy Chill and Zinus Ultra Cooling Green Tea have an all-foam construction made up over four layers. The Cocoon By Sealy Chill is 10-inches deep and starts off with a breathable knit cover that’s made with phase changing materials that remains cool to the touch. There is then a layer of adaptive high quality memory foam, a response comfort foam layer for extra cushioning, and then a heavier, more robust layer of foam for support and durability.

The Zinus Ultra Cooling Green Tea mattress is slightly deeper at 12-inches and starts with a soft cover that instantly feels cool to the touch. This fabric has been designed to wick away moisture and heat from the body. There is then a layer of gel memory foam which has a 7 zone comfort technology to alleviate pressure points and reduce aches and pains. The next layer is a responsive comfort layer which is infused with green tea which works to help keep the mattress super fresh before a final ActiveSupport stability base layer which provide strong support and additional edge support.

Cocoon by Sealy Chill vs Zinus Ultra Cooling Green Tea mattress: Comfort and Support

  • Both mattresses have a medium-firm tension
  • Zinus Ultra Cooling Green Tea mattress offers more of a sink in feeling
  • Cocoon By Sealy Chill you lie on top rather than sinking in

Both of these mattresses have a medium-firm tension with both mattresses feeling slightly more on the firm side. The Cocoon By Sealy Chill delivers a classic memory foam feel in that it is supportive and contours to your body. However, it’s not quite as soft and squishy when pressure is applied so you don’t get that sink-in feeling so it’s a good choice for those who like to sleep on top of the mattress rather than right in it. The Cocoon By Sealy Chill will suit almost all sleepers although side sleepers will really benefit from the cushioning which prevents pressure building around the hips and shoulders. This mattress is also a good choice for heavier sleepers who love memory foam but don’t like to feel stuck.

The Zinus Ultra Cooling Green Tea mattress in comparison while feeling a lot firmer than it’s 6.5 out of 10 rating does offer the sink-in comfort that we’re used to seeing from memory foam mattresses. Side sleepers will really find this mattress comfortable, but it does offer enough support for back and stomach sleepers. The contouring of the gel memory foam layer offers really good pressure relief in all the spots you need it the most so you can kiss goodnight to aches and pains when you awake in the morning.

Both of these mattresses excel when it comes to motion isolation. If you’re sharing your bed with a restless partner or pet then you won’t have to worry about feeling them moving about at night. If you move around a lot of night and change positions then the Cocoon By Sealy Chill is more suitable because you won’t sink in to the mattress.

In contrast, there is a little sinkage with the Zinus Ultra Cooling Green Tea, making it a little more difficult to move about. If you like sleeping close to the edge or you sit on the bed and put your shoes on in the morning then you may prefer the Zinus Ultra Cooling Green Tea mattress as the ActiveSupport Stability Base Layer helps stabilise the edges and provides strong support so you won’t feel like you’re going to fall out of the bed.

The Cocoon By Sealy Chill cooling technology mostly comes from it's advanced cooling cover. This cover uses phase-changing material to absorb and dissipate any excess heat, it doesn't feel cool to the touch but once you're sleeping on it, it'll start to work. The comfort layer also works to help keep the mattress cool too as this breathable foam allows for additional airflow and ensures the heat doesn’t get stuck within the mattress.

The Zinus Ultra Cooling Green Tea has similar cooling properties to the Cocoon By Sealy Chill. Starting with the cover which they call an Instant Cool Cover. This is made from a super soft fabric that feels cool to the touch and will remove heat and moisture away from the body. Unlike the Cocoon By Sealy Chill, you can feel the cooling powers of this cover by applying a bit of pressure. There is then a layer of gel-memory foam that uses Zinus’ 7-zone comfort technology that doesn’t just alleviate pressure points but also increases airflow to keep you cool.
