Coco Gauff through to US Open second round after debut victory over Anastasia Potapova

Coco Gauff has won on her US Open debut after beating fellow teenager Anastasia Potapova in three sets.

The 15-year-old made the headlines after reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon, knocking out Venus Williams on the way, in her first senior Grand Slam tournament.

And the teenager showed her character, as well as her talent, after recovering from a set and a break down to win her US Open debut, beating Potapova 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in two hours of play.

Gauff got a wildcard entry from the US Tennis Association after her fairytale run at SW19 in July.

The American fell behind 3-0 at the start against 18-year-old Potapova and suffered a crucial break at the beginning of the second set and third before turning things around at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The players' combined age of 33 made it the youngest matchup of the first round at Flushing Meadows.

She will play Timea Babos of Hungary in the next round.
