Coco Gauff edged a thrilling finale to see off the challenge from Timea Babos and set up a third round clash with Naomi Osaka at the US Open.
The 15-year-old, playing in her debut tournament at Flushing Meadows, won the first set before Babos showed her character to force a final set.
But the American starlet displayed nerves of steel throughout the entirety of the two and a half hours on court as she closed out a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 success at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.
The match itself will be remembered for some time after a series of incredible shots and sheer athleticism shown by both players.
But Gauff's success, capped with an emphatic celebration after Babos sent a backhand into the net, highlighted the mental strength of the teenage sensation.
She will play defending champion Naomi Osaka in the third round after the Japanese beat Magda Linette in straight sets.
