It was the 11th meeting between Sabalenka and Gauff, with the American taking the lead in the previously equal tally of face-to-face confrontations.
For the American tennis player this Grand Slam trophy is the second of her career. In 2023, she defeated Sabalenka in the final of the U.S. Open.
This year's final in Paris was the first time a world number one and number two had met here since 2013, when Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova, and only the third such duel in the last 30 years.
