Cocktail recipes could be revolutionised by entrepreneurial idea from Belfast pair

They can be the cure for tough week at work - and now how people drink cocktails could be about to be flipped on its head.

That’s thanks to two entrepreneurs hoping to allow people who aren’t trained in the craft to make perfect cocktails at home in under a minute.

Belfast hospitality veterans Damien Cole from West Belfast and John Ferguson, from the city centre , have created BatchBuddy.

Focusing on classic cocktails, like the gin-based Bramble or the vodka-based Cosmopolitan, BatchBuddy kits come complete with a specially-created batching bottle to create a world-class serve.

Customers simply follow the measurement lines on the batching bottle, adding their chosen spirit and other ingredients as detailed, before chilling their creation until it is cold enough to serve.

John, 38, said: “We all enjoy and appreciate the art of mixology, hence why cocktails continue to become more and more popular. However, cocktail-making is historically an expert craft taking years to perfect just one recipe.

“I’ve spent over 15 years in the industry as the owner of various venues and have always championed the power of batching. The technique has become more popular as cocktail popularity has peaked because it streamlines cocktail service so that customers don’t have to wait. We’ve taken the technique and made it consumer-friendly too.

“BatchBuddy aims to take the hassle out of cocktail-making for bars, restaurants and consumers to recreate their favourite drinks in record time at home without experience, fancy equipment or traditional recipes. The biggest benefits to our product are convenience, consistency and cost.

“Our current crowd-funding campaign will support BatchBuddy to transform cocktail culture, finally allowing everyone to create and enjoy cocktails at home and ensuring bars and restaurants can supply them without worrying about long customer queues, crazy costs or inconsistent quality.”

The pair have begun a crowd-funding campaign, with a target of £10,000 to bring the kits to the market.

A range of incentives are available for donators.
