'Cockfishing' is the disturbing new dating trend you need to know about

Another new digital dating trend is being discussed - and you may just have been affected.

In the last few months we've learned everything we need to know about  micro-cheating,   paperclipping,   Kondo-ing  and  fishing.

But the latest dating trend to be coined - 'cockfishing' is making the online dating scene in 2019 even harder to navigate.

Cockfish, sometimes know as catcocks, are closely related to catfish because they use the wonderful world of the world wide web to misrepresent who they are to potential friends or dates, Metro reports.

While a catfish will alter their entire identity, sometimes even using fake names or photos belonging to somebody else, a cockfish only changes one thing - the size of their penis.

The term is given to those who edit "d*** picks" to make it seem as though their manhood is much larger than it actually is.

It can occur through photo editing, posing next to items that could make their penis appear bigger or with the use of a special lens.

With the news that the iPhone 11 will allow users to exaggerate the size of things with its wide-angle lenses, cockfishing looks set to stay.

Thankfully, it isn't too hard to spot a cockfish.

Blurred edges or distorted lines or backgrounds will expose one a mile off - so be on the look out for those Photoshop fails.

Earlier this week, the term 'fireworking' was coined for another dating trend.

According to Grazia, a person is fireworked when someone goes out with them in order to put on a big display - like a firework display.

The  date  might be in order to make an old flame feel jealous or just to make them feel good about themselves.
