Cocaine worth $2m seized near Byron Bay

Police have seized 6.7kg of cocaine after a vehicle stop on the NSW north coast. (AAP)

A vehicle stop just outside Byron Bay on the NSW north coast has led to a very bad day for a 24-year-old and a very good day for police.

Police found a bag of cocaine in the gold Nissan X-Trail after they pulled it over for speeding on the M1 motorway near Bangalow on Tuesday afternoon.

With the help of sniffer dogs, they found five more packages of the drug in a speaker box and under the car's back seats on Wednesday.

They'd seized the car after arresting the Pottsville man and charging him with large commercial drug supply.

All up, the cops nabbed approximately 6.7kg of cocaine, which they say is worth more than $2 million on the street.

They also found cash in the car.

The man has been refused bail. He's also been charged with dealing with the proceeds of crime and speeding.

More charges are expected to follow.
