Cocaine dealer jailed for 12 months

A cocaine dealer busted with over £21,000 worth of drugs has been jailed for 12 months.

Stephen Donaldson, 38, was snared with the drugs on November 22 last year at his home on Terringzean View, Cumnock, after police attended at the home with a search warrant.

The class A drugs were hidden throughout the house including in a walk-in cupboard and within a tin found underneath a TV.

A vacuum packed bag contained 254.07g with a four percent purity for cocaine.

Experts described this as a quarter kilo bag which could be sold for £7000, but if sub divided into smaller deals it had the potential yield of £10,160.

Whisky bottles containing the drugs were found within a walk-in cupboard of Donaldson’s bedroom.

Stashed inside the bottles was 255.72g of the drug, which tested three per cent purity.

Again, the quarter kilo load could sell for £7000.

A polythene bag containing 19.66g of cocaine could have had a street value of £800 if the drug was sub-divided.

Another bag was found with 11.07g of cocaine and debris, but due to the mixed concoction, experts were unable to attribute a value. A total of £1340 cash was also recovered alongside £2500 in pre-paid gift cards.

Donaldson was arrested and taken to Ayr Police Office and found to be in possession of two self sealed bags of cocaine.

He made no comment while interviewed but when quizzed on the cash and gift cards he said the money was earnings from Craig Tara Holiday Park and the gift cards were from a money-saving scheme.

The total value of drugs recovered was estimated to have a retail value of £21,460.

Donaldson’s partner Lisa Kirk also faced charges alongside him but her not guilty pleas were previously accepted by the Crown.

At the court sentencing hearing last Tuesday, Donaldson was told no other suitable method of disposal was deemed appropriate due to the “nature” and “gravity” of the offence.

He was jailed for 12 months, discounted from 18 months on account of his guilty plea.
