Coca-Cola's Christmas advert for 2020 is another tear-jerker

Coca-Cola's Christmas advert is proving to be another tear-jerker among viewers.

We reported yesterday how the McDonald's advert had left parents in floods of tears, now the drinks giant is doing the same.

The two-and-a-half minute commercial has been directed by Oscar winner Taika Waititi, who is well known for his work on films such as JoJo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok.

And his festive offering, a far cry from the company's usual 'Holidays are Coming' approach, has got viewers all choked up.

The dad finally get to Santa's grotto but finds it closed for Christmas (Coca-Cola)

It follows a dad, working away on the oil rigs and trying against all odds to deliver his daughter's letter to Father Christmas, but when he finally makes it to Santa's Grotto he finds it 'closed for Christmas'.

What do you think of the ad? What's your favourite Christmas ad so far? Let us know in the comments here or share your views on our Manchester Family page.

It's perhaps not as relatable as the McDonald's ad - showing dad stranded in the middle of the ocean after getting knocked out of his boat by a whale - but it's still proving to be an emotional watch for many.

Samantha @SammieeDeeeee tweeted: "The Coca Cola advert maybe be this years best advert, I can’t handle how emotional it makes me."

While Charlotte @thepennotthesw1 added: "So it’s 9:30 am and I’m here weeping like a baby at the Coca Cola Christmas advert. So beautiful."

He manages to make it home in time to see his daughter at Christmas (Coca-Cola)

Thankfully dad is rescued by the trusty Coca-Cola truck, driven by Santa himself, and manages to make it home from his job just in time for Christmas - exactly what his daughter had wished for in her letter.

With the traditional Coca-Cola truck tour cancelled this year due to the pandemic, the advert has not taken the usual 'holidays are coming' approach. Instead viewers are told: "This Christmas, give something only you can give."

The tagline for the commercial says: "Be it in person, over an awkward video call, or just a quick message, making time for the ones you love is what makes Christmas truly the most special time of year, no matter how you do it."
