Coca-Cola Japan Co. announced that under its revised employment regulations, employees in same-sex relationships are able to register their partner as a spouse. Such employees will have access to congratulatory leave, nursing care leave and other benefits. The company will treat all of its about 20,000 employees' relationships under the same conditions as those of legally married partners.
Regarding common-law marriages, employees will need to submit to the company a certificate issued by the local government or a certificate of residence showing a shared address. They can also take advantage of the company's welfare programs.
"By having a diverse workforce, we can foster a corporate culture that generates innovation," said Jorge Garduno, president of Coca-Cola Japan Co.
J. Front Retailing Co. is also revising its employment regulations so that employees will have access to marriage and bereavement leave, regardless of their partners' sexual orientation.
