Coca-Cola issues urgent warning over bottles sold in shops and supermarkets

Fans of Coca-Cola have been warned to be cautious when opening some of its products.

The warning was issued after it emerged that some bottles may have damaged "neck rings".

According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA): "Coca-Cola European Partners is issuing precautionary advice for opening Coca-Cola Original Taste 1.5 litre PET bottles because the bottles may have damaged neck rings which means that the bottle might have a sharp rim edge which could present a safety risk on opening."

The 1.5L bottles have a best before date of 30 September 2020.

A statement issued by Coca-Cola added: "The bottle neck ring might have a sharp and uneven rim edge which could present a safety risk on opening."

The affected bottles have the following batch codes:

083EK3TT:TT

084EK3TT:TT

085EK3TT:TT

086EK3TT:TT

087EK3TT:TT

088EK3TT:TT

089EK3TT:TT

090EK3TT:TT

The FSA added: "If you have bought any of the above product, before opening the bottle, refer to and follow the advice given by Coca-Cola European Partners below. If you have concerns or are unable to open the bottle safely please retain the bottle unopened and contact 0800 22 77 11."

The recall only affects bottles on mainland Great Britain and not those products produced by Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company for Ireland and Northern Ireland markets.
