Coca-Cola has issued a warning to shoppers about opening some of its original bottles of Coke.

According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA): "Coca-Cola European Partners is issuing precautionary advice for opening Coca-Cola Original Taste 1.5 litre PET bottles because the bottles may have damaged neck rings which means that the bottle might have a sharp rim edge which could present a safety risk on opening."

A statement issued by Coca-Cola read: "The bottle neck ring might have a sharp and uneven rim edge which could present a safety risk on opening."

The affected bottles have the following batch codes:

083EK3TT:TT

084EK3TT:TT

085EK3TT:TT

086EK3TT:TT

087EK3TT:TT

088EK3TT:TT

089EK3TT:TT

The 1.5L bottles have a best before date of 30 September 2020.

The FSA says: "If you have bought any of the above product, before opening the bottle, refer to and follow the advice given by Coca-Cola European Partners below. If you have concerns or are unable to open the bottle safely please retain the bottle unopened and contact 0800 22 77 11."
