Coca Cola Christmas truck arrives in Manchester - and families are travelling miles to see it

There's a red truck parked up outside The Trafford Centre and people are waiting in line in the freezing cold just to get a picture with it.

Of course, it's no ordinary truck - it's the iconic Cola Cola truck - and people have travelled far and wide just to get a glimpse of it.

Last year, because of the pandemic, the Coca‑Cola Christmas Truck Tour was cancelled.

But this morning (Friday, December 3) it arrived back in Greater Manchester - for the first time since 2019.

It set off this year from Glasgow and has already made its way to Newcastle, Leeds, Castleford and Sheffield.

Tracy Pickup and her family travelled from Burnley to see the Coca-Cola truck today - and she even finished work early just so she'd have the time to drive down to see it.

"It's taken us nine years to get here," she told the M.E.N.

"Every time we arranged to get here something else come up."

She flies to Lanzarote tomorrow (Saturday) and made sure that she came down today to see it before her Christmas getaway.

"It's something I've never seen before and we're always drinking Coca-Cola," she said.

Unlike previous years when a full schedule of stops has been announced in advance, the company is this year drip-feeding its locations, confirming stops just a few days before its planned arrival.

It was only announced this week that the truck would be making its way to The Trafford Centre - where it will stay until Sunday, December 5.

It's open from 11am to 8pm across all three days.

Michelle Thompson is another shopper who experienced the famous Coca-Cola truck today.

She made the journey all the way down to The Trafford Centre from Glasgow with her niece - and says that it's so much bigger and nicer than any shopping centres in Scotland.

The Coca-Cola truck, with its bright white lighting, and of course, Santa's face, was an added bonus.

"It's a great wee photo opportunity so it was," she said.

The last time the truck came to Manchester, two years ago, it stopped off at both Asda Eastlands and The Trafford Centre.

The Coca-Cola truck first appeared on screen in November 1995 and has since become a familiar fixture in festive TV schedules across more than 100 different countries.

The classic advert shows a procession of twinkly trucks snaking their way through a snowy landscape, lighting up Christmas trees and houses as they pass while children watch in wonder.
