COBRA: Sky One drama with Robert Carlyle and Victoria Hamilton uses Portishead as filming location

Portishead Open Air Pool has become a film set once again.

Sky One crews moved on to the lido earlier this week and will be filming today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday).

Although volunteers at the pool have remained tight-lipped about what is actually being filmed, it is understood crews are on location working on the second series of British drama series COBRA.

The six part series, which starred Robert Carlyle and Victoria Hamilton, premiered in January 2020 and a second series has since been commissioned.

It is the first film crew to descend on the pool this year.

Pool volunteer Andy Thatcher said: “They have been setting up and will be filming today and tomorrow. They will be using the main pool and the toddler pool.”

Over the years, under the management of the Portishead Open Air Pool Community Trust, the lido has become an increasingly popular filming location. Last year it was used as a location for a new new sci fi blockbuster commissioned by Netflix called the Last Bus.

It has also been used as a location for River Monsters and for Andy Day for Andy’s Prehistoric Adventures.

Although Sky will be moving off site on Saturday, film crews from S4C will be arriving at the lido next week for filming for a new drama series.

Mr Thatcher said: “The pool continues to be a popular filming location and we have welcomed many crews over the years.

“This is down to the ability to be able to film underwater scenes here.”

The pool has been closed to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It is hoping to open again this year when it is deemed safe to do so and restrictions are lifted.
