Cobra meeting to be held over flooding as Environment Agency issues fresh warnings for Notts

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will chair an emergency Cobra meeting today (November 12) to discuss the response to recent flooding.

The news comes as flood alerts for Nottinghamshire remain in place.

Heavy rainfall battered the area last week, leaving north Nottinghamshire flooded and evacuations in Worksop, Mansfield and Newark.

In total, there are four flood warnings in the region along the River Don, the River Idle at Retford and the River Trent at Carlton on Trent.

A flood warning from the Environment Agency means flooding is expected and immediate action is required.

Residents should move family, pets and cars to safety and avoid contact with flood water. It is one level below a severe flood warning ('danger to life') and one above a flood alert ('flooding is possible').

There are a further 13 alerts where flooding is possible across Nottinghamshire and the surrounding areas.
