Coatbridge thug who left man "permanently disfigured" avoids prison sentence

A violent Coatbridge brute who left a man with “permanent disfigurement” following a frenzied attack will carry out unpaid work.

Brendan Rafferty “repeatedly hit ” his victim “with his hands” after grabbing him during the troubling incident on Langloan Street on
April 5 last year.

Police later arrested 27-year-old Rafferty and he entered a guilty plea to the assault.

Background reports were then ordered for the Parkway Place resident at Airdrie Sheriff Court and he was back for sentencing earlier this month.

Sheriff Derek O’Carroll told Rafferty: “This was an appalling attack that left someone with permanent disfigurement.”

Rafferty was sentenced to a community payback order that will see him supervised for the next year and carry out 100 hours of unpaid work, which was reduced from 120 hours because of his guilty plea.

Sheriff O’Carroll told Rafferty: “This [order] is a direct alternative to custody, so if you breach it then you know what to expect.”
