Coatbridge thief stole from four different shops in one year

A COATBRIDGE man went on a shoplifting spree, stealing a variety of items from four different stores in the town in a year.

Jamie Donnelly, 22, of High Coats, admitted four separate charges of theft when he appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court last month.

Prosecutor Roslyn O’Hara told the court how his crime wave began on February 14, when he stole a gift set from Superdrug on Coatbridge Main Street. Two days later he stole an electrical item from Tesco at the town’s Faraday retail park.

On August 22, Donnelly nicked a quantity of electrical items from TK Maxx at the retail park and then returned to the same venue to steal a quantity of detergent and electrical items from the Iceland store, on September 16.

Defence lawyer Jim Sloan told the court: “There is room for improvement.

“He is on a methadone programme.”

Sheriff Fergus Donnelly told Donnelly: “You need to comply as they are an alternative to custody and you can’t test the courts patience.”

The sheriff set a community payback order review and deferred sentence until January 29.
