A Coatbridge roof tiler is walking on air after he was crowned Britain’s top tradesperson.
Darren McGhee of DMG Roofing beat more than 1000 other entrants to the prestigious accolade from Screwfix.
He was presented with the trophy by the company’s CEO John Mewett at the annual trade show Screwfix Live at Farnborough Exhibition Centre.
Darren walked away with £10,000 worth of tools, a £5000 tech bundle and a further £5000 towards future training.
The thrilled roofer said: “I am absolutely delighted to win this competition.
“Just making it to the final was a massive achievement so to win is amazing.
“The prize will be hugely valuable in helping me to continue to grow the business and help raise standards in the roofing industry.
“I want to thank Screwfix and the other judges for this great opportunity.”

Darren and nine other finalists faced a panel of judges including representatives from the NICEIC, CIPHE and FMB.
