Coatbridge parish welcomes back popular former priest for new position

St James’ the Greater parish church in Coatbridge has welcomed back one of its popular former priests.

Father Kenny Campbell will take up a new position as administrator at the Kirkshaws parish and will split his time between St James’ and St Barbara’s churches in Muirhead, where he has been appointed as parish priest.

As a young priest in the 1990s, he served as assistant in St Monica’s church for more than eight years and was also chaplain to Columba High School for 11 years.

Father Kenny told the Advertiser: “It’s great to be back in Coatbridge.

“The people here are always welcoming of their priests and offer great support.

“St James’ is a fantastic parish and I relish the challenge to build and develop it over the coming years.”

Father Kenny, above right, will be assisted in both parishes by Fr Kevin Lawrie, left, who was ordained as a priest of the Diocese of Motherwell in July.
