Coatbridge music students lectured by "Godfather of grunge" Nirvana producer

Music business students from the Coatbridge campus of New College Lanarkshire welcomed renowned record producer Jack Endino to top the bill at their music conference.

The musician – dubbed the “godfather of grunge” and who produced early albums for Nirvana and Soundgarden – flew in from Seattle to give a masterclass at the students’ fourth annual Question Session event.

He also ran a studio masterclass for sound production students from the college’s Coatbridge and Cumbernauld campuses, sharing his views on music, technology and his approach to recording and mixing, plus stories from his illustrious career.

College lecturer Ruaraidh Sanachan said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for students to work with a legendary industry figure and I’m thrilled we were able to bring Jack to Scotland for these events.

“Jack shared fascinating insights with our sound production students at the studio masterclass, then he participated in discussion panels and seminars at the Question Session event.”

More than 500 delegates attended the students’ busy programme of talks and workshops at the Lighthouse in Glasgow, followed by a live music event at the Old Hairdresser’s on Renfield Lane.

Further speakers included Vic Galloway, Des Clarke and Ann Harrison.
