Coatbridge man tried to break in to, and steal from, supermarket

A COATBRIDGE man who tried to break into an Asda superstore faces a further wait for his sentencing.

Connor McKinnon, 20, of Sikeside Street, attempted to break in to, and steal from, the supermarket in West Lothian in April 2016.

Prosecutor Roslyn O’Hara told how he tried to prise open the doors of the store and then used a trolley and refuse bin to smash the doors in a brazen raid.

McKinnon committed another offence in February 2018, when he was found to be in possession of a knife in Mavisbank Street and Quarry Road, both in Airdrie.

At the time, he was on bail from Airdrie Sheriff Court, an order having been imposed on him in November 2017.

Last month, defence lawyer Tony Linden told the court that reports previously ordered on McKinnon had not yet been prepared.

Sheriff Fergus Thomson deferred sentence until January 29 to obtain the full social background report already called for.
