Coatbridge man threatened to spread a police officer's nose "across his face"

A YOB threatened to spread a police officer’s nose “across his face.”

Lee Fleming, of Dunbeth Court in Coatbridge, behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm.

He was repeatedly shouting and swearing and adopted an aggressive demeanour. The 25-year-old made threats of violence and derogatory remarks towards police officers in the execution of their duty.

The incident happened in a house in his home town’s Dryburgh Place on November 27 last year.

Later, at Coatbridge police office, Fleming assaulted a male constable by spitting on him.

Prosecutor Flora Walsh told Airdrie Sheriff Court: “At 11.50pm, police attended on a separate incident.

“He was taken to Coatbridge police office and continued to act in an aggressive demeanour shouting to officers, ‘I’ll spread your nose across your face’.

“He then spat on an officer.”

Defence lawyer Rowan Myles said: “He had a very unhappy childhood and was expelled from school at the age of 14.”

Sheriff Fergus Thomson said: “I am minded to deal with this by way of a non-custodial disposal.”

Fleming was given a community payback order which included carrying out 60 hours of unpaid work, reduced from 90 hours because of his early guilty plea.

Fleming was told to do the work within four months.
