Coatbridge lorry incident: Man fighting for life in hospital after being struck while crossing road

A 39-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after being struck by a lorry while crossing the road in Coatbridge.

The incident happened on Tuesday (March 2) round 11.40am at Kirkshaws Road, where it meets North Road - a busy junction for vehicles joining the M8 motorway via the A725.

Emergency services attended and he was rushed to Glasgow’s Royal Infirmary, where staff describe his condition as critical.

The 48-year-old driver of the lorry was uninjured.

Officers from the Road Police Unit in Motherwell are appealing for any witnesses to the serious crash to come forward.

Sergeant Craig McDonald said: “I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time, who witnessed the crash to contact us as they may have information that will assist our investigation. I would also ask any drivers with dash-cam footage of the incident to come forward too.”
