Volunteers at Coatbridge community foodbank have received a welcome boost of £1000 to help with their vital work in supporting people through the coronavirus crisis.
The donation from the community fund run by Barratt Homes will be used to buy much-needed groceries and toiletries for the parcels distributed by the local organisation, and help them continue their work during this time.
Foodbank co-founder John Convery said: “We’ll ensure that every penny of the donation will be spent help struggling families to access food and essentials.
“Although the foodbank was established five years ago at a time of austerity, it has been called to step up its operation due to the Covid-19 pandemic; and from us and on behalf of the many we seek to assist, we’d like to thank Barratt for its very generous donation.”
Run entirely by volunteers, Coatbridge foodbank is supported by local retailers and also works with schools in the town to raise awareness of food poverty.

The £1000 donation is this month’s donation from the housebuilder’s community fund, which makes grants to west of Scotland charities nominated by employees and which “improve the quality of life for those living in the area”.
Barratt finance director Suzanne Craven said: “The work the foodbank is carrying out is vital in these unprecedented times and the local community depend on them – we’re very pleased to support them with this donation and look forward to helping them where we can in the future.”
