Coastguard called to rescue dog in East Lothian after it swam out to sea

The coastguard was called to rescue a disobedient dog in East Lothian after she swam out to sea.

Coastguard rescue teams were called to help a distressed dog owner at around 7:30pm yesterday 18 July) at the River Esk at Fisherrow Links in Musselburgh .

The owner's 7-year-old pointer had swam out to sea in a bid to chase "local wildlife" - despite her owner's pleas and commands for her to come back to shore.

Left with no other option, the owner contacted the coastguard for assistance and rescue teams from North Berwick and Fisherrow rushed to help.

The naughty pup continued to disobey commands from officers.

But just as the coastguard team got suited up in drysuits to retrieve Bella from the water an exhausted pointer finally came ashore.

After around an hour in the water, the dog was said to be exhausted but not hurt and was reunited with a very grateful owner.

Somehow, we think Bella might be in the doghouse this weekend.

If you see someone in difficulty or something you are concerned about on the shoreline, beaches, cliffs, mud or water, call 999 immediately and ask for the Coastguard.
