Coastguard and police dogs spend days looking for missing Scots dad as search goes on

The coastguard and police dogs have been deployed as part of the search for a missing Scots dad who hasn't been seen for nearly two weeks.

Harry Macdonald, 59, was last seen in Portree on the Isle of Sky at around 10am on Wednesday, September 21. Last week we told how his desperate daughter Jennifer appealed for information on Facebook as she asked anyone who knew where he was to reach out.

The Western Isles, Skye and Lochaber coastguard teams say last week was dominated by the search for Harry. Working with police and mountain rescue teams, crews searched derelict abandoned buildings, grassy hillsides and cliff edges.

Pictures showed the teams searching for Harry, but unfortunately he has still not been traced.

HM Coastguard - Western Isles, Skye and Lochaber said on Facebook: "This week has been dominated by the search for Mr Harry Macdonald, missing from Portree. We were tasked by MRCC Stornoway to support Highland & Islands Police Division on Thursday, September 29.

"Coastguard Rescue Teams from Kyle of Lochalsh, Dunvegan, Portree, Isle of Skye, Duntulm and Mallaig alongside Duty Officers S18C and S18E started initial searches.

"During afternoon of the 29th they were joined by elements of Ness and Stornoway Coastguard Rescue Teams along with our Yamaha Viking All Terrain Vehicle and crew, and at this point a Coastguard Search Adviser was activated to provide remote tactical advice.

"Working closely with the Skye Mountain Rescue Team, search dogs and handlers from SARDA Scotland and police search teams we remained on scene and searching until late afternoon on October 1.

"At this time, Mr Macdonald remains missing and we wish to extend our thoughts to his family and friends while asking anyone with information to report it to Police Scotland."

Harry is originally from Tongue in the Highlands but has been living in Portree in recent years.

He is described as being white, 6ft 2ins in height, with white/grey receding hair and dark, bushy eyebrows. When last seen, he was wearing a navy blue hoodie, blue jeans, black walking boots and a red sports watch.

Harry left his dog with a family member before he went missing, which is completely out of character for him to do, and said he was going on a walk.

Last week his daughter Jennifer said: "My dad is missing if anyone has heard or know of his whereabouts please let me know, he was last seen in Portree."

Officers are continuing to appeal for information and anyone who may have seen Harry, or has information on his whereabouts, is urged to get in touch. Information can be passed to Police Scotland by calling 101 and quoting reference number 2186 of Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
