Coast Guard rescue two kayakers stranded near Dalkey, south Dublin

The Irish Coast Guard rescued two kayakers who got into difficulty after going out on the water without safety equipment.

The Dun Laoghaire team sprung into action after they received a distress call from the raft just off Killiney beach in south Dublin.

The brave rescuers were assisted by local fishing vessels and the Irish Lights boat ILV Granuaile, Dublin Live reports.

The rafters were found by local fishing vessel Dignity, whose captain took the casualties onboard before transferring them to the RNLI.

The Coast Guard said: "The casualties had no lifejackets or any proper safety equipment onboard the kayak except a mobile phone to make the distress call.

"They were handed to local gardai on arrival to RNLI station. Thank you to all the local assistance with this incident.

"If you see someone in distress near or on the water, dial 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

"Please remember, #StayHome. Irish Coast Guard & RNLI are recommending to stay off the water during this pandemic."
