Coast Guard investigating unknown containers found on Alaskan island

  • Over 100 unmarked containers with unknown contents were discovered scattered along the coastline of Montague Island in Alaska.
  • The discovery, ranging from five-gallon to 55-gallon drums, was first reported by Gulf of Alaska Keepers to the U.S. Coast Guard.
  • The Coast Guard has successfully recovered all the containers from the southern coastline of Montague Island.
  • Multiple agencies, including NOAA and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, are now involved in an investigation to determine the contents and origin of the drums.
