Coalisland security alert ends as object declared as 'nothing untoward'

Police have concluded their operation at a security alert in Co Tyrone this morning.

Officers were called to the scene on Monday morning in the Derryvale Park area of Coalisland, following the discovery of a suspicious object.

A number of residents in the area were evacuated from their homes as ATO moved in to examine the suspect device.

The alert has now ended and police have thanked locals for their patience.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "A security alert in Coalisland has ended. 

"A suspicious object was discovered in Derryvale Park this morning (Monday 17th August). Police and ATO attended the scene. ATO examined the object and declared it as nothing untoward. 

Inspector Irvine added: "I want to thank the local community for their patience this morning and for their vigilance."
